If you live in the Truc Bach neighborhood this is the perfect local bar. I often stop by on my way home from work. The staff is super friendly and hilarious, the two french owners are cute, and the music is way above average. It is a relaxed atmosphere with a limited menu of crepes, ice cream, and a few other things. The drink prices are average and when there are people there they often tend to be interesting. Its off the beaten track so not too many tourists/backpackers find the place, what a relief. Right now they have a bizarre painting of a stork/phoenix-like bird hovering over a bunch of eggs hatching human babies. Admittedly I like this painting more and more each time, perhaps I just l;ike the bar so the painting is growing on me. Anyways.... 'nuff said, its a good place to unwind at the end of the day.

I have been waiting patiently to move into an apartment for over 3 weeks now. I waited while the place is rennovated. I am schedualed to move in tomorrow and went to go ask the landlord for my key. He sat me down and offered me a coke and told me he may have rented the entire building to some Japanese company. I signed a one-year lease contract. He offered to give me back my deposite. Does anyone think I have any leverage.... if so what kind? I DO have a contract but I don't really want to get the police invovled. as a side note, anyone know of a nice one bedroom or studio apartment preferably near truc bac lake?

here is a toughy... I am looking for a place to develope black and white film, or a darkroom that i might use. anyone got any ideas??!!
I have always felt that if i could just sing well then i might be able to take over the world... ha really i just want to be a good singer it would make me oh so happy and i have heard it is something that can be taught unlike creativity or whatever... so if you are qualified let me know.or if you know of a person/place that is let me know. I am currently a tone deaf version of Janis Joplin... almost anything would be an improvement.
I have a friend coming to hanoi who is training to be a concert painist. She has been given a grant to come research the effects of French Colinization on traditional vietnamese folk music and will need acess to a piano in order to practice for the month that she is here. Does anyone have a piano they would be willing to let her use, one that she might borrow, or know of a place that might have practice rooms? Of course we would pay for any of these services. Thank you so much for your help as I think this is a rather difficult request in Hanoi.
Hi all I am a mac user having a difficult time acessing FTP WIFI connections around the city. It used to be that I would go to a cafe, select the FTP Network from the scroll down menu that appears when I click on the airport icon at the top of my screen. When I would open Safari I was automatically brought to a FTP WIFI sign in page where the username and password were automatically filled in for me. I clicked connect and could then navigate to whatever page I wanted. For some reason I still get the FPT Wifi signal but I am no longer brought to that intial singin webpage which allows me to navigate to other pages. I recently returned from the US and was having a hard time getting my wifi to work there. SOme computer wiz friend of mine fixed my proble by changing some settings (what he actually did I have no idea). I am wondering if I need to change some of these illusive settings again. If so what/how should I do. Any help would be appreicated becase the cafe across the street from my house has FTP WIFI. Thanks!

hey all - sofietel plaza isn't accepting new members and the Hanoi club is waaaay out of my price range... any other thoughts? I guess the pool doesn't have to be THAT close to truc bach. thanks!

there is some hiking to be done around the Tam Dao area... I rode up on my motorbike one weekend parked her on the side of the road and just took off on a random trail. I encountered a pink snake. Yikes! There were almost no views but it was a great three hour amble through the woods... well worth it in my opinion. So yeah I would be down to do some other hikes with other folks if anyone has some more ideas.... it is summer and i miss the outdoors desperatly even. LEts GO!
In response to the question: Does anyone out there know any nice hiking or mountain biking trails? I am also looking for people whom enjoy these things as well. Let me know....
