this place is great, the music has improved although the dance floor is too small but the best bit is dancing down the gang plank to get there - bring it on!!!

lighthouse isn't so bad, its all we have so beggars can't be choosers. I have had many nights there, most a big fat blur but the memories i have are good. shame about lack of opening recently and the music could be a hell of a lot better.....

I love you Maos, you are my second home, my joy and retreat from real life, your beer tastes fantastic and is such good value and without your little red lounge, life in Hanoi wouldn't be the same.

I used to learn Kung Fu with an awesome vietnamese teacher called Quang who speaks good english and has classes for both viets and foreigners. His studio is on Ba Trieu in Hai Ba Trung district. His phone number is 0904115388
I highly recommend him, classes of 2-3 people were US$5 per hour.

The GVT has put restrictions on banks selling USD so banks will not sell USD at the moment. At HSBC you can only transfer money out of VND accounts to GBP, EURO, AUD etc but NOT USD. They exchange at the inflated rate so you loose a lot and you can only transfer money out if you have prove the source of the money. For example HSBC charge 0.3% fee + 265,000 VND for transaction and they use GBP exchange rate of 36,000 VND to 1 pound........so you will loose a lot but I heard that it is only going to get worse so I took the risk and transferred money out. I have now negotiated my salary in USD.
