I have had mixed experiences when dining at Matchbox. There is no denying that the freshly made pasta is delicious, and the cheap Tuesday night pasta night is particularly good value. I also really like the setting, and the location is convenient to where I live. However, several times there have been problems with running out of particular items and also with being charged for a few extra drops of balsamic and oil and other petty things. The staff are usually friendly, but sometimes not. It's a combination of an unfriendly waitress and being charged for silly extras that have dampened an otherwise nice dining experience at Matchbox. An example of what happened one time was we ordered for the bread and dip trio. We got given an abnormally small portion of bread and no babaganoush (which instead was replaced by chilli sauce) but were given no explanation or apology. When we asked for more bread we were told it had run out. When we asked about the dips, they said they had run out. We would have appreciated being told that before ordering (as we wouldn't have ordered!) and would have appreciated NOT being charged the same price, and an apology could have been nice. Later that same meal, when we asked for more crackers to have with the cheese plate, we were charged extra! This is kinda stingy! However, the food is tasty and the price is right, so I will return to Matchbox, but it can be a bit touch and go with the service.

I tried Havana Club for the first time recently and quite enjoyed the experience. I thought it was a welcome change from the other places I usually go to, and while I agree with others that it isn't "authentic" Mexican, I still thought it was tasty and also offered good value for money (especially with the free beer deal on Saturdays). The decor is a bit questionable, but for a hearty and tasty meal that is a bit different from the usual, then I would recommend trying this place.

Breakfast heaven can be found at Five. YUM!! The huge and delicious fresh juices, the perfect coffee and the then eggs benedict (that has a vegetarian option) are something to really look forward to all week. They have good cakes too...mmm...lemon meringue pie...

Chim Sao is a great place to go on any night of the week. I love that you can sit on the floor, and just chill. I have been here with many different sized groups on many different nights of the week, and it is always suitable. It's always busy serving foreigners as well as locals, and it's great tasting food comes at an excellent price for the quality and size of the dishes. My only problem is that on several occasions, things I have wanted to order from the menu haven't been available, and the staff aren't exactly super friendly.

I eat here at least once a fortnight, not only because it is convenient to my work, but also for it's excellent and inexpensive food. It's always a-buzz with diners, the staff are efficient, and I have never been disappointed by the food. My favourite dish: Khanh Ngao. YUM!!!

I'm leaving Hanoi in a month's time after 7 months here and have accumulated "stuff" that I want to ship home to Australia. Can anyone recommend a shipping company that is reasonably priced and also reliable? Thanks in advance!

I miss their banana leaf and saffron fish dish and was disappointed to find no lay Bac where they used to be when I went to get my fix about 6 weeks ago. Not sure where they have moved to, but if anyone finds out please post on here!
In response to the question: Does anyone know what's become of Lay Bac? I've been missing it terribly! I know they closed just after Tet in order to move to a new location. It ...

I spent a week going evereywhere to find plain white, cotton, flat sheets and finally hada this place recommended to me:
Minh Duc Shop
59 Hang Gai
I have since bought sheets for our entire house here, as they are cheap and nice. This shop specialises in embroidering sheets and pillow slips in addition to table cloths etc. I am not a fan of embroidery myself, so I just asked Chi, the owner, if I could get plain sheets and she was more than accomodating. You can get flat and fitted sheets for all bed sizes, as well as pillow slips, all in plain, white cotton. Buy in bulk and she discounts, with prices ranging from $7-17 depending on the size you want.
In response to the question: Can anyone recommend a place to buy luxurious quality, pure cotton bed sheets - that are vaguely reasonably priced? Also, pillows? Thanks ...

Have found that Bambou Silk also will make custom made sheets sets (fitted and flat with pillow slips) in your choice of fabric and they will do embroidery designs for a small extra cost. It takes a week or so to have them made but they look great! Tell them the size of your bed and they will be made to fit perfectly.
