about the venue: Hoa Vien Brauhaus

yeah, the beer here is good...and i have had the good fortune of being on the receiving end of the big 'company shindig' spoken of by the previous reviewer. big buffet, and lots of beer!

about the venue: Army Hotel

To clear this up! It is a bit confusing, because there are 2 pools accessible via the one gate. One is the Army Hotel Pool, the other is.... well another pool- not sure the name of it, or who it belongs to!

Don't mean to 'expose you' Cheapie, but the other 2 reviewers went to the Army Hotel Pool, and you ended up at the 'other pool'!

I enjoy the Army Pool, but as the previous poster noted it does get pretty darm crowded later in the arvo. It is much more enjoyable either in the morning, or over lunch time when it is pretty much deserted.

Happily, the drinks prices are reasonable and you get a nice fresh towel as part of the deal! They also do month tickets- worth 30 entries which work out cheaper.

about the venue: Pho Thin

3.5 stars!

Just came back here after a long absence! Not much more to add about the pho- although on todays visit I found it a little salty- but ngon all the same.

Just an extra review on the 'pho matron'- today I found her most amicable- even engaged in a wee bit of small talk, and got a smile! Maybe she's just 'focused' on the pho!

about the venue: 69 Bar - Restaurant

3.5 stars!

Just went back here a couple of nights ago, after about a year's absence. We had the cha ca la vong (not exactly authentic, as we had to ask for mam tom and the fish actually came in a broth, but still very nic- in my opinion anyway-some of our Viet company were a little put out though!) The eggplant hotpot was a little salty, but otherwise tender and delicious.

The space is lovely, although we all felt a little hot when the cha ca broilers arrived at the table:-(

about the venue: Things of Substance

Looks like these guys have missed out on their stars by the previous posters! This is a good place for western sized clothes- they regularly have new stock coming in, and usually have some pretty good designs. They even have shoes (most probably made in Hoi An)- but good for the big footed foreigner (it's amazing how perspective on self can change in an Asian country, I certainly never considered myself giant footed freak until coming to Vietnam!)

  • Been in Hanoi a while now... but have still not found a huge range of western sized clothes or shoes, apart from tailored boutiques & Things of Substance. I am a US size 6-8...any help appreciated.

  • I am after old 'standard issue' wooden chairs for an art project. They were commonly used in government offices, and are basic wooden chairs with slatted backs. I am able to pay a small amount for unwanted chairs.

  • I've been picking alot of New Hanoians brains recently, and here I go again. I've been here long enough, but I have still never quite found a replacement for my trusted hairdresser from home.

Any recommendations for a good one in Hanoi (with experience dealing with fragile western hair??) Cheers
