My long, curly/frizzy, non-Vietnamese hair is very pleased with the haircut from here yesterday. Cuong did a great job with thinning and layering and I will definitely go back.

Loved the pancakes that I had for brunch, although they were possibly the smallest pancakes in the world....but fairly cheap and very tasty! They also do great poached eggs. I'll be back!

Best chocolate cake EVER.
Very friendly staff

The food was tasty but 90,000VND is far too expensive.....and several members of the group left hungry, because they wouldn't refill our pot again (apparently, we'd reached our limit - seems to be a very small limit).
I wouldn't go back.

This was great. Fantastic food - the quality of a posh restaurant back at home but only $11 for 2 courses at lunchtime (although, dinner menu looked very expensive). Beautifully presented meals, delicious bread, nice interior decor, very good service from staff. I like!

Hi, I'm looking for a thin foam mattress to put on the floor when visiting friends need somewhere to sleep! Any ideas where to get one? Thanks.
Hi, my Sony camera is broken. Does anyone know if there is a Sony store in Hanoi? I looked along Trang Tien but couldn't see one.
Thanks

Hi, did you find any good clocks? I am looking for a plug-in digital clock (with numbers that you can see in the dark). Tried Things Decor but they didn't have them. Thanks.

I have an account with Vietcom Bank. It was easy to set-up. Go to the second floor of their head office on Tran Quang Khai.
I have deposited money via international transfer from Australia (directly from my Aus bank account) without any problems, but I haven't ever tried to deposit actual cash in person.
Easy to withdraw money at ATMs.
Haven't come across any hidden catches.
In response to the question: Can anyone recommend a hassle-free bank where I can start a bank account (either dong or dollars) and make deposits and withdrawals without showing do...

For anyone who likes to swim a good distance, then the best option is Sao Mai. It is 50m long and you can swim proper laps without too many people crossing your path. Yes, the pool is not up to the cleaner standards of Thang Loi Hotel (mouldy tiles!) and the showers/toilets aren't particularly nice. But it's not that bad and I much prefer swimming 20 laps of Sao Mai (1km) than 50 laps of Thang Loi. Thang Loi is a great place to hang out and the pool is really nice....but only 20m long.
Sao Mai costs 30,00VND to swim and 3,000VND to store your bag.
Open hours:
Weekdays: 12pm-7pm (last entry at 7pm but pool closes at 8pm)
Weekends: 6am-7pm (last entry 7pm, pool closes 8pm)

Running around the Mausoleum is great.....the footpaths are wide and are empty. You can do quite a good, long-ish route by also weaving through surrounding streets. More interesting than Thong Nhat and also much easier because you don't have to keep dodging people and bikes.
PS: Izzy is right - Thong Nhat is also called Lenin Park! But so are lots of other parks...but Thong Nhat is the main one associated with that name.
In response to the question: I am curious if anyone knows of some great, longer (6k-15k) running routes in and around Hanoi. I have been running in Lenin Park, but I would love a ...

Try the Army Hotel - it's in Hoan Kiem, near the Opera House.

But it depends on what sort of a swimmer you are. The pool is too short for me to be able to swim a decent distance, so I have been heading up to pools around West Lake.

I get keys cut on Nguyen Thai Hoc - if you're heading along NTH towards the old quarter (coming from Temple of Literature), there is a nice guy on the right side a bit before Le Duan. He sits on the footpath (in a section where the footpath is really wide) in front of some sort of sewing machine repair place. There is also a guy a bit further along, who sits on the footpath on the corner of Le Duan and NTH (diagonally opposite Hapro)...but I found some of his keys didn't work. So I prefer the other guy.
In response to the question: Does anyone know where I can get a battery for my watch? A watch shop? Or are there some little fix-it shops around the old quarter? And where can...

I'm pretty sure that there are international aviation standards in relation to animals travelling with people in the cabin, i.e. it's not allowed!
But they should be able to transport animals in carry crates down in the cargo area - a friend imported a pet puppy from USA that way (not sure which airline).
In response to the question: Does someone know if Viet nam airlines accept puppies on board... Good luck with the rain coming ...
