I just ate here today and happy I've found it:
1. they have A/C !
2. The Sushi is cheap and reasonable
3. The staff were very friendly and spoke English well!
4. You can order half a ration of Nem (therefor eat more of a variety)
5. Nem and Sushi make a great combination, light lunch but very filling.
6. Did I mention their A/C works! and they leave it on!

I was pleasantly surprised by this place.. I had always thought it was a tourist trap. The food was OK and VERY cheap.. I liked that they had lots of vegetarian options that I haven't seen in other places (and a veggie burger for 25,000vnd)
Halida is 7000..
and it's rooftop!
Who could ask for more?
Not your gourmet cuisine but definitely great for those days when you wait for your paycheck to clear.
*oh, and they have a pretty large menu of pancakes which I can't wait to try!

DON'T go here if you are a Western woman...
After reading the reviews on this page, I decided to go check out this joint. Needless to say we were the only chicks in the bar (aside from Viet women who seem to "know" most of the older man who patron this place).
Maybe it was "big old white men" night and it's better on other days. At least the fries were delicious and the service was decent..

Where can I buy masks or wigs? Need some props to spread that Halloween cheer in my classes.
I am looking for a seamstress/tailor that could copy dresses for me for less than 100,000 each (I'll supply the fabric). Preferably someone who can understand a few words of English.
I used to go to the one on Xuan Dieu but it's too far..
It's so hot! when does pool season start? which pool is best to go to (are there other ones aside from Army hotel?). Is it possible to get a monthly membership? Is it easy to sneak into hotel pools here? (like Horison or Hilton).
I hear there is one near west lake.. but I don't know the address or if it's open yet.
Can any one recommend good sleeping pills (that I can get without a prescription but strong..) and a good pharmacy to get them from?
I thought I could go without them but after 7 months of not sleeping a full night, I could really use some..

I torrent all my favorite trash TV shows and watch them the day after they come out in the States.
It's a bit hard to explain how torrents work (you need to download a program then go to sites and download links to add to the program) so do a web search and learn about them.
I download all the shows from a site called rztv:
http://thesprawl.se/frontpage.php
good luck!

I usually treat my bicycle as if it were a moto and give it in for parking. Most parking places charge you 1000VND instead of 2000. When you go out to bars at night you just give it to the valet as if it were a moto.
If you go to a restaurant, just park it outside on the curve next to the motorbikes and lock the wheel, usually there is some one looking after it.
In response to the question: I have a decent mountain bike, nothing overkill but perfect for city riding and I really want to have it around for a while. I don't know what the par...

Hey ya'll
thanks for your replies
for all those who are interested:
I tried the pool at Khan Quang Do Hotel which is actually a public pool full of children next door to the hotel.. NOT recommended. cheap option 15,000vnd
I've been going to the Thang Loi hotel and it's absolutely lovely if you can handle seeing people spitting the pool. I find going in the afternoons best because there aren't that many people that time of the day (the sun!). 40,000 VND and nice to hang out and have a beer there too.
Army hotel isn't bad either and always empty, its 45,000VND. It's a bit hard to swim in the weird shaped pool but is a good option for those who want to swim in the old qtr.
I find the public pools to be overcrowded with children and rather dirty. Seems like hotels are the best option for peace and quiet.

I've never used an agent in Hanoi.
Can you recommend any?
I was thinking of just using VN airlines office cause they probably won't resist the cash.

Ahalan wa sahalan,
You can go to "a thousand nights" the shisha place. I think it is owned by an Iraqi and there are always local Muslims hanging out there.

I hear hair workshop is great (they have massage chairs like in the States) but it cost over 100,000 VND for a pedicure when it usually cost 5000-10,000VND at Vietnamese joints.
I usually go to Kally Huong on 52 Hang Buom street where the pedicures are about 15,000 and with drawings 25-35,000 (minus the massage chairs and expensive nail polish). All the other places in the old quarter charge $3.
In response to the question: Any recommendations for a good pedicure place in Hanoi(hopefully with not exquisite pricing)? For my girlfriend I swear! She's worried places here wil...
