Hanoi ancient citadel
no photo available

I have read recently that on certain days and at certain times you are now able to walk around parts of the Hanoi ancient Citadel. I have lost the details and ask does anyone know more about this. I really just need to know which is the correct point of entry.

The Hanoi ancient citadel now includes 5 sections: The Flag Tower ( u have to go through the Army museum)- Dien Bien Phu str, Doan Mon Gate - the entrance gate is at Hoang Dieu str, Kinh Thien Palace - Hoang Dieu Str, Hau Lau - Hoang Dieu Str, and Northern Gate ( Cua bac) - Phan Dinh Phung str. They are separated, so u have to go through different entries...

Hope it helps,

Hang

I wasn't quite able to post a review of Co Loa Citadel but this answer section seemed a logical place to do so.

Co Loa is one of the true gems of Vietnam's ancient citadels. Rich in history and legend this excellently preserved site is a short ride ( about 15 Km from Ho Hoan Kiem) just outside Ha Noi. A must- see for students of Vietnamese history and culture. Certainly worth a visit during the annual festival ( a planned repeat visit for me ) or anytime for a great day trip.

The old Citadel is now open and you can walk through from Doan Mon Gate to the Ladies Pagoda. The underground war bunker is only open during festivals.

Go in Doan Mon Gate and walk behind the tower. You'll see a bar with 'DO NOT ENTER' - then enter and keep walking. When you get to the farthest end, look for the basketball court and turn left. You'll see a small path that will take you to the Ldies Pagoda. You have to exit to get to the Northern Gate (around the corner)
