Price of Imitation Watches around the Old Quarter
no photo available

Hi All, Just arrived in Hanoi and I'm thinking of buying a copy watch from one of the Watch shops in the old quarter. Can anyone fill me in on the going price for these? Or any other info would be good. A Rado was priced at 50$US How much do you think I might be able to knock it down in price?

Many Thanks

I would not pay more than $20 for a copy.
And competition is tight so you should be able to get it for that price :-)

Just remember, have a price set in your mind, and if its not met just walk away.

Hi,

what about these "vintage" Rolex watches ("Rolex Oyster" I think) that look pretty rugged and worn out? They look like they are from the 60s and they are pretty expensive, around USD 50-60. Are these originals or copies, too?

Not an expert by any means but based on the prices quoted, probably not the real article.

Genuine vintage premium watches can still go for a pretty penny irrespective of overall condition.

At first glance, many of the copies made in various places overseas are quite convincing and have developed a certain prestige in their own right. On closer inspection, however, the workmanship and materials for production are very far from the real items. Still, many buy the watches for fun rather than as a reliable timepiece.

In short, you sort of get what you pay for.
