I've been picking alot of New Hanoians brains recently, and here I go again. I've been here long enough, but I have still never quite found a replacement for my trusted hairdresser from home.

Any recommendations for a good one in Hanoi (with experience dealing with fragile western hair??) Cheers

Definitely Mr Vu at Vu Doo salon. 32C Cao Ba Quat st, 733 8329. It's $18 for a cut, and worth every penny.

Vu Doo's is the only place to go.
He was trained in Australia, so knows western hair.

Alex: 0904509583, he is French and living in Hanoi, had more than 10 years of experience. His hair salon is near Daewoo Hotel. I had my hair cut there, not bad.

A beer in a back alley of Hong Kong.

How about some of you salon savvy Hanoians enter these places into the site for the community? This is a very helpful thread, but it'd be great if these had full exposure to site visitors. Just visit the "enter new spot" page (the link is at the bottom of each page) and then just enter away...

I had a terrible experience with Mr. Vu. I had very high expectations for him after so many recommends from several Hanoians. Terrible cut and he didn't listen to what I wanted. Just rushed me in and out. I have discovered the joy and pleasure that is Alex Hair Salon,42 Phan Ke Binh, Ba Dinh, 04.8326669. Alex is French and has been living in Asia for over 8 years now, and basically, he gets it. He is a lovely man and the service is excellent.

You should check out Tran Hung's at 9 Ho Xuan Huong. Hung was trained in London and has been cutting my hair since I got here. While I am a guy and don't generally care that much, the majority of my female friends get their hare cut there. Highly recommended!
