How knee deep is your hood (re: flood water)?

I am on Van Ho Ba, near Dai Co Viet and Ba Trieu, and am MUCH better off than the Le Duan side of Lenin Park. Wow, went over there today when it wasnt raining and it was insane. People were catching what was the Lenin Park lake fish ON Le Duan and puttin them into bags for what I assume was dinner. The water was a few feet deep in many parts and most people were walking their motorbikes down the road.

I digress...

Point being, its hard to know how serious the situation is throughout the city because the news I can find online is (possibly) exagerated and there is only so far I can go on foot. Dont feel like motorbiking til this is over, Friday's swimming with motorbike experience was enough for me.

we're over on Doi Can just east of Van Bao and our intersection seemed to be the worst on the street--on Friday night I had to wade home through water 3 feet deep, and there was a taxi floating in the middle of the street.

people still insanely tried driving through, causing tidal waves and chagrin to those walking (like me).

somewhat miraculously much of it drained away to about ankle level by Saturday evening, but it's threatening to rise again with the constant rain...

Luckily our house stands so high there is no flood here near Trung Hoa bridge where Tran Duy Hung street and Nguyen Thi Dinh street meet. Fortunately classes for Monday have been postponed otherwise I would have to swim to The National Uni. What about the other parts? Did anyone catch fish on Ho Bay Mau and Ho Tay?

I live behind Big C, and the water is knee deep everywhere.
I'm so bored! I'm running up and down the 8 floors to make sure I'm doing some exercise.

Got to love the enterprising citizens who found a way to make money off the biblical-esque flooding.

Stupid enough to try using your motorcycle as a submarine? There was a small army of people out and about ready to resurrect it. For a price of course.

And friends of a friend cobbled together some wooden pallets, flattened cardboard boxes, a few plastic drums .. and opened an impromptu ferry service.

Viva la Vietnam.

Though I personally wouldn't recommend going anywhere near those flood waters.

It's not just water in there, and the brown colour isn't entirely from mud.

If you do accidentally come into contact with the water, DONT touch your eyes or mouth. Take a long shower with a stiff brush and some strong soap or bleach. May even want to start a course of antibiotics just to be on the safe side.

Probably won't catch anything worse than acute, bloody diarrhea or a really nasty skin rash, but better to err on the safe side.

Old quarter was fine throughout last weekend. I waded through knee-deep water on Ly Thuong Kiet, Hanoi Towers, etc up to Green Mango Friday night and apart from a fallen tree (no damage except to the tree), it was plain sailing (no pun intended). And most shops, restaurants were open there all weekend too.
