Volunteer-work

Hello fellow new-hanoians,

I have no idea if you can help me with my problem, but here goes: We are three danish guys, who arrived in Hanoi about 6 weeks ago. We are travelling with an organisation and were supposed to work at the National Childrens Hospital in Hanoi. Sadly, there is not nearly enough work for us there. So we are looking to find some other stuff to do the next 6 weeks, before we are going back home to Denmark (too soon, if you ask me - 3 months here is not enough).

Anyway; we are willing to do almost anything. Since we are volunteers, we are not looking to get paid for our work - but then we don't have any specific skills either ;-) .. Teach english, work at an orphanage, help at events, or whatever.. Every suggestion or just general info are welcome!

Looking forward to hearing from someone out there :)

This is from www.infosharehanoi.com The Hanoi International Womens Club has a bazaar coming up that always needs ticket takers and door guards. You might also check with other groups whoa may also need willing hands with few skills
****

There are many opportunities to volunteer in Hanoi. Some of the following are good causes you can support with your checkbook.

A few words of advice. Most volunteer organisations expect a certain level of commitment of time and effort. Volunteering with children is especially sensitive. Kids need to develop relationships which last and it takes a while to train a volunteer, so travelers wishing to 'help out' can not always be accommodated. There is also the saying 'To break someone's rice bowl' - take a job away from a qualified national. It's often seen as more beneficial to train a Vietnamese who will remain in the system with these skills than to work with a foreigner who will ultimately leave. If you do have needed skills and will stay in Hanoi for some time - check out the websites below.

If you like to work with children, our child's pre-school has a place for you. You can teach the kids English, songs, drawings, crafts, anything you like and they don't critise you. The school also have exchange students from Danmark every year to join the activities.

Give it a try at "Hoa Thuy Tien primary school" in Hoang Quoc Viet street, Cau Giay district.

We donate bicycles

Hello,
Humanitarian Services for Children of Vietnam (HSCV) is currently in need of a few individuals to work on and oversee our children's area at our 4th Annual Fundraiser. The fundraiser will be held at the American Club from 2 - 11pm on November 8th. Please visit http://newhanoian.xemzi.com/en/event/show/929/date/2008-11-08 for more information on our event and visit www.hscv.org for more information on our organization.
We will need you to organize games and activities. You will be asked to design different stations. Last year our activities included, face painting, arts and crafts, hoop toss, bean count, tug of war, sack races and more! We will have group of volunteers helping on the day of the event.
If you are interested please contact Annetta De Vet at annettadevet@hscv.org.
Good luck with things!
