Pictures of "old" Vietnam
no photo available

I was wondering if there was anywhere I could find photos of Vietnam in the 1950s/60s for sale?

Thanks in advance!

Start your search by locating some of the inexpensive "Old Saigon" and "Old Hanoi" series of B&W postcards available from street vendors around town. The photos cover important places in the cities circa 1920-1960. From there, try contacting the postcard publisher for higher resolution photos. I think the postcard company is located in HCMC or try The Gioi Publishers
in town.

Try googling the French google. google.com.fr They seem to have a lot of photos.

Also the Thu Vien Xa Hoi - Social Sciences Library on Ly Thuong Kiet (#26 ??) has 14,000 photos on file in their computer. I've not looked for that era but it's worth a shot.

Also the Hanoi Library (soon to be open at Tran Hung Dao and Ba Trieu - hopefully 10/10/08) has a lot of photos in envelopes. Some are the soldiers returning home from Dien Bien Phu - your era. They are currently housed in the Citadel area.

For both libraries take a letter from your employer/school and your passport. Both libraries are very helpful. Don't think they speak English well though.
