I am curious if anyone knows of some great, longer (6k-15k) running routes in and around Hanoi. I have been running in Lenin Park, but I would love a change of scenery. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Lenin Park route is about 500m. I think you meant Thong Nhat park. You don't want to run on the road, do you? So there's no other place has 6,000 to 15,000 m in length. I know some other places: 1. Bach Thao park. It's on Hoang Hoa Tham st. - Ba Dinh dist. behind Ho Chi Minh mausoleum. The scene is more beautiful. The route is shorter (about 2km). 2. Youth park. It's on Vo Thi Sau st. - Hai Ba Trung dist. However, it's quite far from your house, I guess. The secene is not so good. They're planning to build a huge park there. Who knows when it starts. 3. Indira Gandhi park. It's on Lang Ha st. - Dong Da dist. Like Thong Nhat park, you run around a small lake. The route is about 2km. The scene is good. 4. Some people choose parks and roads around My Dinh stadium but I think it's too dusty there. To share my interest. I often run 15000m at an half-abandoned military airport near my house. It takes me 50min to 1 hour. How about you?

Thank you for all of your advice. You're right - I have been running around Thong Nhat park, and not Lenin Park. I need to get the name right. I'm most intrigued by the half-abandoned military airport you mentioned. It sounds as though you can run for an hour without looping 8 times. I have done a handful of half marathons in the past, and have my eye on a few this winter. (Hence my interest in longer runs). Could you tell me where this military base is? It may be a good thing to run around during the weekends/after work. Thank you!
It's a military airport so unauthorized person can not get in, I'm afraid. It's about 1.7 km. I have to run around 10 times to make 15000m. Of course I don't take any break during running.

Another option may be the new road around West Lake (on the East side). I do not know how long it is but it is beautiful and there is not much traffic - yet! On one side you have the lake, on the other at times, big hoa sen ponds. I have seen a few other people running there. It starts off Dang Thi Mai.

I'd go with Yinka's suggestion. It's a GREAT run, along Xom Chua, off of Dang Thai Mai. If you're into graffiti art at all, the road is COVERED in it! Lots of different route options, hardly any traffic, and a great view of the lake. Good luck! Send a message if you're looking for a running partner!

Found this in another thread, but it seems relevant here as well... http://www.hanoih3.com The Hanoi Hash House Harriers frequently organize runs in the Hanoi area. Never done it myself, but it looks like a fun group!
Thanks for the advice. Over the next few days I'll likely check out that road in West Lake (I've been there once - via bicycle, and it does seem like a good spot), and the HHH. Happy running ...

Running around the Mausoleum is great.....the footpaths are wide and are empty. You can do quite a good, long-ish route by also weaving through surrounding streets. More interesting than Thong Nhat and also much easier because you don't have to keep dodging people and bikes. PS: Izzy is right - Thong Nhat is also called Lenin Park! But so are lots of other parks...but Thong Nhat is the main one associated with that name.
